Project Description

Rincon Center is a 1,050,000-square-foot mixed-used complex constructed on a constricted urban site. The project was constructed next to the Rincon Annex Post Office which is listed in the Register of National
Historic Places. The project was designed to incorporate the existing historic building and included adding two stories atop the building in such a way so as not to visually impact the historic façade.

The first phase of the project largely consisted of the rehabilitation of the three-story postal annex. The addition of two 36,000-square-foot floors, recessed slightly so as not to visually impact the historic façade, and the creation of the atrium galleria with a 200-foot-long skylight and landscaped terraced balconies provided the right combination of attractive amenities. The atrium’s most existing feature is one of the world’s tallest waterfalls, a remarkable 85-foot rain column that free falls from a skylight to a shallow terrazzo basin.

The renovation incorporated a complete seismic upgrade including new concrete shear walls located on three sides of the building, and life safety and barrier-free improvements.
